Challenges for today
Recently I was given a poem by an older sister who had just recently read Titus Two and Tea. I wanted to share the poem with you:
Some day of days
Some dawning yet to be
I shall be clothed with immortality.
And in that day I shall not greatly care
That Jane spilt candle grease upon the stair.
It will not irk me then as once it did
That someone chipped my teapot lid.
Keep me sweet Lord!
Keep me sweet!
What will be your challenge today to be kept sweet? Most likely it will not be candle wax on the stair or a chipped teapot lid. Will you remain sweet or succumb to the old nature within?
I John 4:4 "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." How wonderful to know that we have a greater one within that can keep us sweet. When we aren't sweet, this greater one will remind us we have an issue to clear up and will give us the strength to correct it.
May your day be filled with sweetness!

Love....an indicator of a spiritually mature life
Recently I was reading an article on the behavior, beliefs and actions that lead to a successful, spiritually mature life. One of the most notable marks of spiritual maturity was the ability to love....the article read:
"Love is giving. Love flows from having received love and value from the Lord. Spiritually mature people are givers. They are motivated to help others succeed, even more than they want to benefit themselves."
Do we love from the heart and desire the object, the person we love to succeed? I ask this of myself concerning my husband. Do I desire that he succeed? Do I desire to serve him so that he does....at the expense of myself?
Is this the desire of my heart and if it isn't what is in the way? Sin? Unforgiveness in my heart? Hurt? Anger?
Do I realize that I am loved of the Lord and that His love can flow from me? Since I am unconditionally loved and valued by the One who created me, I can love others unconditionally. That I can forgive and be healed of my hurt?
Today may we walk in the knowledge that we are loved and valued by our creator and let this knowledge flow from us in the form of love to others...especially to our husbands.
"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command." John 15:13-14 We have been loved by the greatest of love...
"Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another, not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord..." Rom. 12:10-11

Packing
Do you enjoy going on trips? If so, do you enjoy packing? It seems this summer that I have lived almost solely out of a suitcase. I'm even almost starting to enjoy packing!
This next week we will be at youth camp and I've needed to pack once again.
My favorite way to pack is to first be sure that the laundry is done and put away. It's so much easier to pack when you have everything that's clean to choose from.
Next I find the appropriate suitcase. This summer I decided to try to put 1 weeks worth of clothes in one of those pull on the plane types. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
I think about each day of the week and what I would be doing on that day. (ie: meetings, swimming, sleeping)
I proceeded through the week putting out what I'd need for each day on the bed. Sometimes I'd try on an outfit just to be sure it looked suitable. :)
Lastly I'd start at the top of my head and think down my body, shirt, necklace, jacket or sweater, underwear, skirt, slip, shoes, socks etc. I do this for each day and each outfit just to make sure I have everything I need.
I have a nice cosmetic bag that holds most of the things I use. Since I'd be pulling it on the plane I had to make sure that no liquid item was more than 4 oz. 4 oz. easily lasts for a week!
I also have a second hairdryer and curling iron, brush and comb that I keep in my suitcase. I don't use an alarm clock but some like to put one in.
At the top of the list for things to forget were my P.J's or swim suit. I'm getting better at remembering them.
For camp I'll need to add a towel, beach towel and a sleeping bag and pillow.
I've found that if you want to bring tennis shoes, it's best to wear them on the plane as they take up lots of room in the suitcase. If you don't want to wear them you can roll your socks and other items and stuff them inside the shoes.
I put the shoes on the bottom with my hair dryer, curling iron, brush, comb and then on top of that I fold my clothes. I've heard you can put paper towels between them or plastic bags or even roll them to keep them from wrinkling but I've found folding them is quite forgiving once they are hung up.
On top of the clothes I put my cosmetic bag because some airport security people want them put into one of those plastic trays and it's much easier to grab it off the top of the suitcase rather than on the bottom.
Be sure to charge your cell phone and tuck in the charger.
I also gather a second bag to put my Bible, books and magazines inside as well as stationery because I like to write letters on the plane. It's great to have lots of things to do on the plane if the person next to you prefers sleeping to talking :). Airplanes are great places to share the Lord as you have time to build a little relationship.
Hopefully now I have it together and all that is left is to enjoy the trip.
P.S.: When I get home I try to replenish my cosmetic bag so that it's all ready for the next trip.

Hi Girls,
This weekend we were privileged to attend a wedding in the Bay area. It was nice to have a long drive with Sid. We really get caught up on those drives. I recommend an occasionally time away with your husband, if you have one, to get recharged. :0
At the wedding I had a talk with a friend who had read the last blog. She had heard a great idea for people who love "things." When you decide to get rid of some of them you put them into three piles. One pile is for the things you "absolutely love" and don't want to get rid of, the next pile is the "so-so pile", and the third is the "give away" pile.
I had heard something similar in the past but this put a new spark in my spring/summer cleaning. Yesterday I started on the china hutch...I forgot the three part give away idea, so will need to go back and take another look. I think most of the things in my hutch are gifts and memories so most of them will likely stay put until an earthquake really decides which ones I keep. (now that's a gloomy but realistic thought).
A friend is having a garage sale on Saturday, so my "give away" pile will go to a good cause.
Have a great day everyone and always keep before you the love of the Lord Jesus!

Spring cleaning the kitchen
Oh, have I bit off more than I can chew? I've got the bug to spring clean! I started this week in the kitchen and did a bit each day. Would you like the details of what I accomplished? Did I hear a yes? Well here goes...
Monday:
I started in one corner of the room and went through all my cookbooks, sorting out some that I never use. I'm sort of addicted to them and I still have more than necessary! Then I made it to the refrigerator and cleaned it all out and the freezer too. Vinegar and water works well. It was nice to get rid of some old items and to realize what I do have so now my dinners will include some of these items in the freezer so they can make room for something new.
Tuesday:
Next was the Tupperware cabinet. How much Tupperware does one need anyway? I sorted out quite a bit of it and put it in the garage for the next "garage sale." Then the cupboard with the dishes....I sorted and got rid of mismatched cups, glasses etc. etc. Then I washed down the shelves and lined them with new shelf paper. I think I like laying shelf paper as much as I like hanging wall paper~ :(
After that came the silverware drawer, the drawer with the zip lock baggies and the towel drawer. They too got a scrub and new paper.
Wednesday:
I cleaned under the kitchen sink.....yucky! Then the cabinet with the serving bowls, pie tins, quiche pans.....more sorting! Ah room, so very nice! I also set my oven to self clean and turned it on.
Thursday:
Wiped out the oven. Cleaned and sorted the little cabinet with the vases. Out to the garage many of them went! Anyone need a vase?
Then on to the "junk drawer" you know the one with the pens, pencils, tape, glue, rubber bands, etc. etc. more sorting, discarding and moving of items, then a cleaning and new paper.
The next challenge was to be the two drawers full of spices. I wiped them all off and put them in alphabetical order. I wrote the name of the spice on the top so I could look down and read them. I put them back in the drawer with the A's in the front row, B and C's in the second and so on. Then I instructed the cooks in my family as to the system and encouraged them to put them back the way they are now after they use them. :)
Friday:
Now to the serving spoon drawer. Wow do I own a lot of serving spoons and various utensils!
I have one of those divided containers so they are easier to see now. There is a divided container in the battery, candle and etc. drawer too. They look nice with their new liners.
Then I rearranged the pots and pans drawers, cleaned them and put down new paper. Some of the pots needed a scrub with Comet and steel wool and they are much shinier.
The last drawer is full of muffin cups, measuring cups, mixing bowls etc. Plus I let go of my old mixer that has the blade stuck in it...it was so very hard to clean and I use the Kitchen Aide anyway. There is much more room now that it has been removed. What do we keep these things for anyway?
The final move was to clean off the counters and the appliances. I took everything off the counters. I have granite so found the granite cleaner and gave them a scrub. Then I only put back on the counters what I use on a regular basis....plus a flower arrangement by the sink just to make the view look pretty when I'm doing the dishes.
I gave the floor a sweep and a mop and I am glad the kitchen is almost finished.....tomorrow....
Saturday:
The plan is to clean out the pantry and above the washer and dryer (mine are in the kitchen behind some folding doors.) Then the spring cleaning of the kitchen will be complete!
It's a good feeling to have it neat orderly and clean. I encourage you to do the same but you will need a block of time each day, some rags, a pair of rubber gloves, comet, white vinegar, drawer liner paper and energy.
I'd love to hear about your success or any special tips.
The plan is to take a break now and pick another room soon!

Recently I was invited to a wedding shower but unfortunately I was not able to attend. The hostess lovingly sent me the devotional that was given to the bride and those attending. I was was struck by the topic and the wording she used so I contacted her to see if she would mind my writing up what she wrote and happily she said yes.
Her top was "words." We're all personally familiar with words. Most of us come by them easily, use them often, and being that we're of the feminine gender; we have many words to share with anyone who will be kind enough to listen.
Scripture has much to teach about words. In Proverbs 15:1 God says, "gentle words turn away wrath." Also the Lord tells us that "the tongue of the wise makes knowledge acceptable. In Proverbs 4 we also read that a "soothing tongue is a tree of life." Proverbs 16:24 "Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones." A beautiful picture!
It is awesome to think that God has given us, His children, a secret potion that can bring comfort, soothing, and healing to the soul of another human being. And then taking that gift of words one step further, as wives and help-meets, we can offer a sweet blessing to our husband through the words that come carefully and wisely from our mouths.
I think it's utterly interesting that God saw fit to equip women with an extra mean sure of words. I think I've head that we females naturally have something like 2/3 more words zipping around our hearts and minds than our men have. I know that's true in my family! How kind of God to liberally give us the words that have the power to sweetly sooth and heal the soul of our husband.
As life bring its ups and downs, as it does for everyone, you have an amazing secret potion capable of delivering God's comfort to your husband when he's feeling discouraged or just less than triumphant. He ears and heart will be inclined to you and your comforting words more than to anyone else. It's really such a beautiful thing how God melts a couple together through the stresses and joys of life. The framework of that melting together deals often with words, Your tender well-chosen words and the daily words of your Savior in the scriptures.
It is my prayer that God in His faithfulness will abundantly give both of you sweet, comforting word for each other. May the Lord bless your marriage.
How are you doing with your words? I know I have some work to do in this area. "May the words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart be acceptable in thy sight oh Lord my strength and my redeemer!"

Wise use of time
Good morning Ladies! Recently my son helped me to create a web site. I hope you have been able to look at it: www.titustwoandtea.com He added the blog onto the site so you can click easily onto it. So take a look!
I have been thinking about a woman's time. Sheri Rose Shepherd has a little book out called: His Princess Love Letters from your King. It has many lovely thoughts in it. On one page it talks about the fact that a princess' time is valuable. Sheri Rose writes: "The time I have given you is of eternal importance. Your life matters, and the most valuable asset you can give to someone or something is time. Remember, My royal one, I want all of your appointments to be in My perfect will. Not all good opportunities are from Me. Keep in mind, My love, that there may be many ways to make more money, but you can never buy back time. So invest your time wisely. Think about what you are doing and how you spend your precious life. Are your days full of the things that matter most to you? Now is the time to take control of your schedule and live a life that maters. If you will sit with Me, I will help you remove the things that are holding you back from doing what's most needed in this season of your life. There is never a wrong time to do the right thing, so come and experience success with divine direction."
"Our people should learn to spend their time doing something useful and worthwhile." Titus 3:14 CEV
Elizabeth George in her book, "A woman after God's own heart" speaks of good, better, best. She explains that some things are good, but somethings are better and others are best. So we are to choose what is best and our time will be valuable.
Prayer and communion with the Father seem to be the key in discerning what to do with our time so that we are choosing the best use of our time. May we take the time each morning to bow our knees and ask the Lord for His direction for the day, so that our lives may count for His glory. This is a challenge to me as well!

Older women are to be... dignified
Hi Ladies,
Today I received an email with a quote on it and this is what it said:
"God listens to our hearts rather than our lips." What a nice thought that is...
He knows our hearts and even though our lips might not speak what our heart is really thinking or feeling ...He knows the difference.
I was thinking about some of the things I say and I know that they are at times said out of love and other times out of insecurity and uncertainty. I speak hastily without checking my wording. It can be a very bad habit! How are you doing with this? Do you always "think before you speak?" Or do you expect others to know what is in your heart? I'm thinking others listening don't usually read my heart so they only have the words to go on. I can be thankful that some of them love me and are willing to overlook and forgive.
David was a man after God's own heart and he certainly was a sinful person...that gives me hope! Thank you Lord for the encouragement of the scriptures...thank you for the men and women that sinned and were still loved by you. Thank you for listening to my heart!

Swing in the new year
Happy New Year! 2010 who would have ever thought that the Lord wouldn't come by now! I remember years and years ago swinging on a cool swing in our yard in Spokane, Washington and thinking about the year 2000....I was sure something amazing would happen that year or perhaps even scary but 2000 was so far away! Now it has come and gone. Probably some very amazing and/or scary things did happen that year!
Some amazing things will happen this year too. Are you ready for them? Are you preparing for the amazing things the Lord wants to do in your life and through your life? He even has some special things planned for you in your home if you are willing.
Perhaps you have some changes you would like to make to your home, some paint, a new picture, carpet or couch. After these changes are made what will you do with your home to share it with others? Will you invite the next door neighbor over for coffee or dinner? Will you babysit some friends children so they can go out alone? Will you make special cookies with your children? Will you invite the other single girls over for an evening of games and snacks? The sky is the limit....won't you ask the Lord what He would like you to do for him in 2010 in your home? Will you make it a place of hospitality?
Maybe what you need is a swing?

Will you invite the next door neighbor over for coffee or dinner? Will you babysit some friends children so they can go out alone? Will you make special cookies with your children? Will you invite the other single girls over for an evening of games and snacks? The sky is the limit....won't you ask the Lord what He would like you to do for him in 2010 in your home? Will you make it a place of hospitality?
Maybe what you need is a swing?
